Amblyopia

Amblyopia occurs in early childhood. When nerve pathways between the brain and an eye aren't properly stimulated, the brain favours the other eye.

Amblyopia can result from any condition that prevents the eye from focusing clearly. Amblyopia can be caused by the misalignment of the two eyes—a condition called strabismus. With strabismus, the eyes can cross in (esotropia) or turn out (exotropia).

What causes Amblyopia?

It may occur due to:

Misalignment of a child’s eyes due to squinting. Difference in image quality between the two eyes due to cataract or corneal opacity. Difference in image size and clarity due to large difference in numbers between the two eyes.

As a result the brain suppresses the weaker image and this eye begins to lose vision.
